Burkina Faso: Security forces to conduct terror attack simulation exercise in Ouagadougou Sept. 16
Security forces plan terror attack simulation exercise in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, 09:00-12:00 Sept. 16. Transport disruptions possible.
Event
Burkinabe security forces plan to conduct a terror attack simulation exercise in Ouagadougou between 09:00-12:00 Sept. 16. In advance of the event, the Ministry of Territorial Administration, Decentralization and Security has issued a public statement advising residents that they may hear the sounds of explosions and gunfire during the training in addition to traffic disruptions where security forces are deploying. Such impacts are particularly likely near the Saint-Leon District, Ouaga 2000, near the Heroes' Monument roundabout, Bois Zone, and on the main thoroughfares entering and exiting Ouagadougou. Authorities have urged the public not to be concerned and to go about their daily business normally.
Regardless of the public announcement, the exercise could prompt some localized business and transport disruptions in Ouagadougou, particularly in quarters where word of the event fails to circulate generally among residents. Previous similar training sessions by the Burkinabe security forces have largely transpired without significant incident.
Advice
Avoid the area of the planned military exercise and remain calm if operating in close proximity to the event. Heed the instructions of local authorities.
