Colombia: Pro-government demonstrations scheduled in multiple locations on Sept. 27
Pro-government activists to march in multiple locations throughout Colombia on Sept. 27. Disruptions likely.
Event
Pro-government activists, including members of political parties, unions, and indigenous organizations, plan to march in multiple locations throughout Colombia on Sept. 27 to support President Gustavo Petro's administration; Petro himself has called on his supporters to take to the streets.
While details of the demonstrations have not been confirmed, reports indicate that a concert at the Plaza de Bolivar will culminate the march in Bogota; the concert is scheduled to begin at 11:00. Several musical artists will perform in the square before Petro talks to the crowd. Large demonstrations are also likely in Cali, Medellin, Bucaramanga, Barranquilla, and Cucuta.
Thousands are likely to participate in most of the demonstrations, including tens of thousands in Bogota. Transport disruptions are likely near government buildings and central squares, and heightened security is likely through the marches' routes. Counter-protests are possible in some areas.
Advice
Avoid all protests as a precaution. Allow additional time and plan for alternative routes if operating in major cities of Colombia on Sept. 27.
