Cyprus: Activists to march from Eleftheria Square to Ministry of Interior in Nicosia from 18:00 Sept. 10 to denounce recent anti-migrant violence

Activists to march in central Nicosia, Cyprus, from 18:00 Sept. 10. Heightened security, localized transport disruptions likely.

Warning

Event

Activists plan to hold a protest march in central Nicosia from 18:00 Sept. 10 in response to recent violent unrest targeting migrants in Chloraka and Limassol. Participants plan to gather at Eleftheria Square at 18:00 before marching to the Ministry of the Interior building. A Sept. 4 protest organized in Limassol to denounce anti-migrant unrest drew nearly 1,000 participants; a similar number of activists may participate in the planned Sept. 10 demonstration in Nicosia.

Heightened security and transport disruptions are likely along the march route. Low-level clashes cannot be ruled out.

Advice

Avoid the demonstration as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling in central Nicosia. Immediately depart the area at the first sign of a security disturbance. Heed authorities' instructions.
