Europe: Activists to protest across Europe Sept. 30-Oct. 1 to show support for Nagorno-Karabakh independence
Pro-Nagorno-Karabakh activists to protest across Europe Sept. 30-Oct. 1. Heightened security, localized transport disruptions likely.
Event
Activists affiliated with the Europeans for Artsakh campaign plan to protest multiple European cities Sept. 30-Oct. 1. The purpose of the campaign is to denounce Azerbaijan's reintegration of Nagorno-Karabakh and express concern for the region's residents. Demonstrations will take place in at least 16 cities, including:
Brussels: Rondpunt Schuman, 14:00 Oct. 1
London: Across from Downing Street before moving to the EU Delegation office, 11:00-15:30 Sept. 30
Marseille: Ombriere du Vieux Port, 12:00 Oct. 1
Vienna: State Operahouse, 14:00 Oct. 1
Protests will also occur on Oct. 1 in Paris, Nicosia, Athens, Valence, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Sofia, Plovdiv, Ruse, Varna, Lisbon, and Prague.
Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near any demonstrations. Though unlikely, low-level confrontations between demonstrators, police, or counter-protestors cannot be ruled out.
Advice
Avoid all protests as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near a demonstration. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
