France: Unionized train drivers plans to strike in Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur region, Sept. 9-10

Unionized train drivers plans to strike in France's Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur region, Sept. 9-10. Likely rail travel disruptions.

Warning

Event

Railway workers represented by the Workers' Force - Rail drivers labor union (Force ouvriere Cheminots) plan to strike Sept. 9-10 across the Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur region. The union is calling for improved pay and working conditions. Organizers estimate that 95 percent of its members will take part in the industrial action. As of Sept. 7, the network operator SNCF has not announced the impact on rail operations.

The industrial action may impact travelers to the following Rugby World Cup matches in Marseille: England versus Argentina on Sept. 9 and South Africa versus Scotland on Sept. 10.

The strike will likely lead to significant rail service delays and disruptions. Protesters may demonstrate at transport hubs, such as major railway stations, and in front of SNCF buildings. Lingering rail disruptions are likely after the strikes conclude, as services return to normal.

Advice

Confirm all rail bookings and train times during the affected period. Allow extra time for travel, and expect increased congestion on available services. Avoid all demonstrations as a routine security precaution and to mitigate personal exposure to any associated disruptions. Heed instructions from authorities.
