Guinea: Authorities close Ahmed Sekou Toure International Airport in Conakry through at least early Sept. 28

As of the evening of Sept. 27, authorities have temporarily closed Ahmed Sekou Toure International Airport (CKY) in Conakry through at least early Sept. 28 after the landing gear of a Nigerien military cargo aircraft malfunctioned during landing. Airport authorities have announced that operations are ongoing to remove the damaged aircraft and obstructive debris on the runway.

Significant disruptions are likely at CKY, including flight cancellations, delays, and detours. Authorities may choose to extend the airport closure if the removal of the damaged aircraft is prolonged. Lingering flight disruptions are likely to continue even after the airport resumes operations as airlines work through passenger backlogs.
