Warning

Event

The Living Forces of Guinea (Forces Vives de Guinee or FVC), an opposition coalition group, will lead a protest march from Tannerie roundabout in the Matoto area to the September 28 Stadium in the Dixinn area of Conakry Region on Sept. 5. The purpose of the action is to demand various political concessions, including a return to civilian rule. The event start time and number of participants remained immediately unclear. Reports indicate local authorities have purportedly denied activists permission to conduct the march; however, organizers have reportedly stated that they will organize the planned gathering despite the restriction. Additional demonstrations could occur in Conakry on Sept. 5. Potential gathering sites include prominent government buildings, public squares, and thoroughfares.

Authorities will almost certainly maintain a heightened security posture in the impacted areas as a precaution. Clashes between activists and security forces cannot be ruled out. Associated localized transport and business disruptions are likely.
