Security forces reportedly fired on protesters in Kirkuk, Sept. 2. The violence has been reported in the Shoraw and Rahimawa areas located in the northern reaches of the city. There have been no immediate reports of casualties. Demonstrators are demanding the reopening of the Kirkuk to Erbil road. The road has reportedly been closed by supporters of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF).
Security forces are likely to maintain a presence in the area in the coming hours. Further protests may occur in response to the road closure or the violence Sept. 2. Road travel delays are likely near any protest site.
