Activists affiliated with the National Torch Movement (Antorcha Campesina) have launched a protest march in central Oaxaca on Sept. 5. Activists demand that the government improve social programs for marginalized Oaxacan communities. Participants gathered at the Plaza de la Danza before marching to the Zocalo. Highway police have reportedly deployed to prevent transport disruptions and asked drivers to take alternative routes.
