Authorities have declared a 24-hour curfew in Kano State between the hours of 18:00 Sept. 20 to 18:00 Sept. 21 in reaction to an election petitions tribunal ruling dismissing the state's governor. Security forces have deployed to various areas across the state, including entry/exit points, to enforce the measure. Kano State Police advised that violators may be subject to arrest and prosecution. Authorities have as yet made no specific statements concerning exemptions for persons engaged in emergency or critical services.

The curfew may be extended or otherwise amended without notice. Tight security could remain in place for several hours after the curfew expires. Incidents of localized violence cannot be ruled out.
