Balochistan National Party rallies and strikes to continue in Balochistan Province, Pakistan, through early October. Disruptions likely.

Warning

Event

Activists affiliated with the Balochistan National Party (BNP) plan to continue their ongoing series of protests in the province through early October. The purpose of the action is to denounce the provincial government's alleged security operation amid tribal clashes in Wadh. On Sept. 28, hundreds of protesters held varying types of demonstrations in several locations, including Kalat, Khuzdar, Lasbela, Quetta, Nushki, Sibi, and Turbat. Activists primarily gathered at the Quetta Press Club, as well as along several thoroughfares in other areas. BNP leaders plan to hold a province-wide shutdown strike on Sept. 30 and a road blockade program on Oct. 7. Organizers may suspend or cancel any such planned action at short notice. Other like-minded groups may join the protest campaign. Well-attended rallies will probably draw hundreds of participants.

Additional gatherings and strikes of varying types are possible over the coming days. Potential rally sites include police stations, government buildings, press clubs, public squares, and thoroughfares. Authorities will likely maintain an increased security presence near any such rallies that materialize. Isolated clashes between police and activists cannot be ruled out. Transport disruptions are likely to occur. Associated localized business disruptions and shipping delays may occur if any blockades persist.

Advice

Confirm transport, shipping, and business reservations in advance. Monitor trusted local sources for updates. Avoid all demonstrations as a standard precaution. Allow additional travel time near gathering sites. Heed instructions from authorities.
