Power outages affecting parts of Karachi, Pakistan, as of late Sept. 9 due to tripping of several high-tension lines. Disruptions likely.

Warning

Event

As of late Sept. 9, power outages are affecting parts of Karachi, Sindh Province, after several high-tension (HT) power lines tripped. The interruption of electricity in the HT lines prompted knock-on disruptions to at least ten grid stations across the city. Several neighborhoods are impacted, including Numaish Chowrangi, Saddar, and Lines Area. Authorities did not immediately indicate when power would be restored in affected areas.

Transport and business disruptions are possible in areas subject to power outages; businesses without backup generators could temporarily suspend operations. Mobile voice and internet service disruptions are possible. The electricity disruptions could also affect ATMs and fueling stations. The blackouts could adversely affect security protocols, including alarm systems and electronic fences; opportunistic criminal activity could increase during the power outages.

Advice

Charge mobile and essential electrical devices when possible and ensure backup batteries are available. Exercise caution when driving in areas impacted by power outages. Park vehicles in secure areas. Confirm business appointments. Verify that security systems are working. Ensure that generators are functional and refuel devices when necessary.
