Romania: Unionized police officers to march from Ministry of Labor building to Victory Square in Bucharest, Sept. 21 /update 1
Unionized police officers to march in central Bucharest, Romania, Sept. 21. Heightened security, localized transport disruptions likely
Event
Unionized law enforcement officers plan to protest in central Bucharest on Sept. 21. Participants will gather at the Ministry of Labor building at 11:00 before departing at 12:00 and marching to the Government Headquarters at Victory Square (Piata Victoriei). The purpose of the action is to demand better working conditions, legal protection, and pay. This is the second such protest following a previous demonstration Sept. 12. It is unclear how many participants may attend.
Heightened security is likely in the area during the protest action. The demonstration will probably result in short-term localized road travel disruptions. Though unlikely, low-level confrontations cannot be ruled out.
Advice
Avoid the affected area as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near the protest route.
