Spain: Unionized taxi drivers to protest march in Barcelona Sept. 5

Unionized taxi drivers to protest in central Barcelona, Spain, 9:00-14:00 Sept. 5. Increased security, localized disruptions likely.

Warning

Event

Unionized taxi drivers affiliated with the Elite Taxi professional association plan to demonstrate in central Barcelona from 09:00-14:00 on Sept. 5 to denounce the Catalan Competition Authority's (ACCO) imposed fine for the organization's boycott of Uber and other rideshare services. Participants will gather at the Venetian Towers before marching slowly along the Gran Via, Balmes Street, then to Via Laietana, where they will rally in front of the ACCO headquarters office.

Increased security measures and disruptions to localized transport and businesses are highly likely in central Barcelona along the demonstration route. The shortage of available taxis could lead to overcrowding on other modes of transportation.

Advice

Avoid the demonstration as a standard precaution. Consider seeking alternative modes for transport and account for additional travel time if operating in Barcelona Sept. 5.
