Informational

Event

Officials in Taiwan will reduce some inbound travel measures effective Sept. 1. Under the new directive, the Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) has indicated that Chinese travelers from Hong Kong and Macau can visit Taiwan for tourism purposes. Authorities have also eased restrictions on short-term business visas for Chinese nationals since Aug. 28. Existing measures may change at short notice depending on the level of disease activity.

Domestic Measures
On April 17, officials lifted the facemask mandate on public transportation. However, individuals are required to wear a mask in some indoor settings, such as medical facilities. The government recommends that vulnerable populations wear a facemask in crowded areas.

International Travel Restrictions
Taiwan permits the arrival of approved entrants without a quarantine requirement. Travelers must take a self-administered RAT if they develop COVID-19 symptoms during the seven-day self-health monitoring period.

Hong Kong and Macau residents may enter Taiwan. Residents from these territories may apply for individual entry permits, instead of groups of at least five people. Hong Kong and Macau passport holders can apply for an entry permit at Taiwan's National Immigration Agency website by clicking here. Foreign passport holders may apply using Taiwan's e-visa platform by clicking here.

Visitors from mainland China remain barred from entering for tourism; exemptions are in effect for those entering for business, education, and family purposes. As of early September, flights to mainland China remain restricted indefinitely; services are available to several destinations, including Beijing, Chengdu, Chongqing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Fuzhou, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Ningbo, Qingdao, Wuhan, Xiamen, and Zhengzhou.
