Lingering flight delays and cancellations are likely over the coming hours at airports in the New York metropolitan area after low ceilings prompted the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to issue ground delay programs at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), LaGuardia Airport (LGA) and John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) through at least late Sept. 25. The air traffic control measures could be extended or rescinded on short notice.

The FAA may issue additional weather-related ground delay programs and/or ground stops for airports in the New York metropolitan area through at least late Sept. 25.
