Bosnia and Herzegovina: Women's rights activists to demonstrate in several cities nationwide Oct. 11

Activist groups to protest across Bosnia and Herzegovina from 16:00 Oct. 11. Heightened security, localized traffic disruptions likely.

Warning

Event

Activists plan to protest in several cities across Bosnia and Herzegovina from 16:00 Oct. 11 to denounce violence against women. Organizers have announced gatherings at the following specific locations:

  • Banja Luka: Krajina Square (Trg Krajine)

  • Bijeljina: King Peter and Karadjordjevic Square (Trg Kralja Petra i Karadjordjevica)

  • Mostar: Spanish Square (Spanski Trg)

  • Sarajevo: Marijin Dvor neighborhood (exact location unclear)

  • Tuzla: Freedom Square (Trg Slobode)

Smaller demonstrations will also take place in towns and cities elsewhere in the country. It remains unclear how many participants each demonstration many draw.

Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near all demonstration locations and may linger into the night. Though unlikely, low-level confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officers cannot be ruled out.

Advice

Avoid affected areas as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near a demonstration site. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
