Planned power outages will continue in parts of Phnom Penh and Kandal Province through Oct. 22 due to maintenance work. Utility provider Electricite du Cambodge has announced that electricity disruptions will occur on the following days:

  • Oct. 20: Scheduled electricity disruptions will occur in Tuol Kork, Mean Chey, Sen Sok, Reussey Keo, and Chbar Ampov districts of Phnom Penh 08:00-16:00.

  • Oct. 21: Outages will occur in Reussey Keo and Kambol districts in Phnom Penh and Ang Snoul District in Kandal Province 08:00-13:00, and Sen Sok and Prek Pnov districts in Phnom Penh 08:00-16:00.

  • Oct. 22: Planned outages will occur in Chroy Changva, Sen Seok, Por Sen Chey, and Prek Pnov districts in Phnom Penh 08:00-13:00.

Disruptions to business and telecommunications, including cellular and mobile services, may occur. Transport disruptions are likely in areas with malfunctioning traffic signals. Power outages could result in the temporary unavailability of essential services, such as ATMs and gas stations. Blackouts could adversely affect security protocols, including alarm systems and electronic fences; opportunistic criminal activity could increase during electricity outages.

Advice

Charge all communication and portable electronic devices when possible. Unplug electronic equipment that is not connected to surge protectors. Exercise caution when driving in areas affected by power outages. Confirm business appointments. Verify that security systems are operational, including after power is restored. Ensure that generators are functional and fully fueled.
