Authorities from Chad and Cameroon are likely to stage security operations at the southern border areas between the two countries as of Oct. 25 to rescue victims of a kidnapping that occurred Oct. 22-23. Reports indicate that about 40 to 50 people, mostly Chadians and Cameroonians, have been kidnapped in two separate incidents near Touboro, North Region, Cameroon. Officials announced that eight individuals have been released. The identity of the assailants is unclear, and there has been no ransom demand reported. The attack was likely carried out by bandits, militants affiliated with Boko Haram or the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), or rebel groups based in Central Africa.
Security forces may establish roadblocks, checkpoints, and search vehicles and personnel. Armed clashes involving kidnappers and security forces cannot be ruled out.
