Colombia: Taxi drivers launch protests throughout Bogota, early Oct 27.
Disruptions likely throughout Bogota, Colombia, Oct. 27, due to ongoing protests by taxi drivers.
Unionized taxi drivers have launched protests since early Oct. 27, throughout Bogota, to demand concessions from local and national authorities. Activists have, and will likely continue, to block certain streets, or do slow-drive demonstrations, complicating ground transport operations in the city. Some of the main protests sites are likely to be in the intersection of Autopista Sur and Avenida Boyaca, the Terminal Sur, and Avenida Primero de Mayo. The vicinities of El Dorado International Airport (BOG) have been affected by similar recent protests, and protests in the area are also likely Oct. 27. The actions are to oppose the alleged mistreatment of taxi drivers by police, as well as to demand that those providing private transport services illegally be removed from the streets.
Significant transport disruptions are likely throughout Bogota Oct 27. Business disruptions are also likely. Clashes between police and demonstrators cannot be ruled out.
Plan for delays and alternative routes if operating in Bogota Oct. 27. Do not attempt to cross a roadblock if you encounter one. Heed instructions from authorities.
