France-Belgium: France implementing tightened controls at Belgium border from Oct. 16

French authorities implement tight border controls with Belgium in wake of Brussels terror attack Oct. 16. Border crossing delays likely.

Warning

Event

French authorities announced reinforced border controls at the Belgium border on late Oct. 16 in response to a terror attack in Brussels. A suspect killed at least two individuals and injured one other before professing allegiance to the Islamic State terror organization; as of late evening Oct. 16, the suspect remains at large. It is unclear how long the heightened controls will remain in effect.

Crossing delays, particularly towards France, and heightened security are likely at the France-Belgium border.

Advice

Allow additional time if crossing from Belgium into France. Keep travel documents ready to show to authorities. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers.
