Pro-Palestinian activists to rally at Piazza Vittorio Emanuele in Rome, Italy, Oct. 13. Increased security likely; clashes possible.

Warning

Event

Several pro-Palestinian activist groups plan to rally in central Rome on Oct. 13. Demonstrators will assemble at Piazza Vittorio Emanuele beginning at 18:00. The purpose of the gathering is to condemn the government of Israel. It remains unclear how many participants the event may draw.

Authorities will almost certainly deploy increased security in the vicinity of Piazza Vittorio Emanuele for the duration of the demonstration. Security-related transport disruptions are possible. Although the gathering will probably remain largely peaceful, low-level clashes cannot be ruled out if activists from rival groups attempt to stage counter-protests nearby.

Advice

Avoid the area of Piazza Vittorio Emanuele during the evening of Oct. 13 as a precaution. Heed the instructions of local security personnel. Allow extra time to reach destinations near the demonstration venue; leave the area at the first sign of any security disturbance.
