Mexico: Unionized judicial workers likely to continue protests through at least late October

Unionized judicial workers likely to continue protests across Mexico through at least late October. Disruptions likely.

Warning

Event

Members of the Judicial Branch of the Federation (Poder Judicial de la Federacion, PJF) will likely continue to protest throughout Mexico through at least late October. Protesters denounce the federal government's official decision to cut employee benefits on late Oct. 17. Recently, gatherings have occurred in multiple cities nationwide, including Monterrey, Oaxaca, and Cuernavaca.

Increased security and localized transport disruptions are likely near rally sites. Participants could gather outside government buildings and on major thoroughfares. Gatherings could attract dozens of participants. Clashes between police and protesters cannot be ruled out, especially if demonstrators are overly disruptive or ignore police orders to disperse.

Advice

Avoid the protests as a precaution. Allow additional time to reach destinations if operating near impacted areas. Seek alternate routes to circumvent any related transport disruptions. Leave the area at the sign of any security disturbances that may materialize. Heed the instructions of authorities.
