Security forces are likely carrying out search-and-rescue operations on Oct. 2 following the kidnapping of about 25 choristers near Elegbeka in the Ose Local Government Area (LGA), Ondo State, Sept. 29. Security forces have announced that they have rescued eight victims. The incident appears financially motivated; kidnappers reportedly asked for an N50 million ransom in exchange for the victims. The abductees, part of the Christ Apostolic Church based in Akure, were en route to Ifon for a funeral.
Localized transport disruptions are likely in areas subject to search-and-rescue operations; security forces may establish checkpoints and roadblocks and carry out searches of vehicles. Clashes involving kidnappers and security forces cannot be ruled out.
