Activists plan to demonstrate in central Skopje, North Macedonia, from 19:00 Oct. 14. Heightened security, transport disruptions likely.

Informational

Event

Activists plan to protest in Skopje on Oct. 14 to denounce alleged government corruption. Participants will gather at the Public Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of North Macedonia on Franklin Roosevelt Street at 19:00. Demonstrators are demanding action over a scandal in which medicine from a state-run oncology clinic was reportedly misappropriated and sold on the black market. This is the latest in a series of protests that began in early September; previous gatherings drew large crowds.

Heightened security and transport disruptions are likely along the march route; disruptions may continue even after the demonstration ends. Isolated low-level confrontations between demonstrators and police cannot be ruled out.

Advice

Avoid the protest. Allow additional time if traveling near the affected area. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that a security disturbance may occur. Heed instructions from authorities.
