South Korea: Anti-government activists to protest in Daejeon from 16:00 Oct. 15

Protest planned in Daejeon, South Korea from 16:00 Oct. 15. Heightened security, localized transport disruptions likely; scuffles possible.

Informational

Event

Anti-government activists plan to rally along Euneungjeongi Street, Daejeon City from 16:00 Oct. 15. The action is part of a series of demonstrations over long-standing demands to impeach President Yoon Seok-yeol. At least a few hundred participants are likely to join, including former Democratic Party representatives and various politicians. The event is likely to pass peacefully.

Heightened security is likely in the vicinity. Although violence is unlikely, isolated scuffles are possible if police attempt to forcibly disperse unruly sections of demonstrators. Localized transport disruptions are also highly likely as attendees typically march on or block roadways. Road closures and/or traffic diversions by officials, as well as increased congestion and demand for public transport are possible if the event attracts a large numbers of participants.

Advice

Exercise caution around the protest site. In the event of violence, leave the area immediately for a secure, non-government building. Do not navigate roadblocks as a safety precaution. Allow additional time for travel to nearby destinations, and use alternative routes to circumvent rally sites; remain cooperative if stopped by officials for security checks. Heed all local security and traffic advisories.
