Activists affiliated with the opposition Republican Turkish Party plan to hold a rally in North Nicosia in the self-declared Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) from 18:30 Oct. 27. The purpose of the demonstration is to express grievances regarding poverty, corruption, and immigration. Demonstrators will gather at Kugulu Park before marching to Ataturk (Sarayonu) Square. Previous related demonstrations drew several dozen participants.
Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely along the march route. Confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officers or frustrated motorists are possible.
