Informational

Event

Auto workers affiliated with the United Auto Workers (UAW) are continuing their strike in over 40 parts distribution centers and plants across 20 US states as of Oct. 3, as they have been unable to reach agreements with leaders from Stellantis, Ford, and General Motors, the three major auto manufacturers in the country. Workers are demanding a 46-percent increase in hourly wages for the duration of the new four-year contract among other benefits. Around 25,000 of the close to 150,000 UAW-affiliated workers are on strike; union leaders have expanded the strike weekly, the latest one being on Sept. 29, to include 7,000 additional workers in a Ford assembly plant in Chicago, Illinois, and a General Motors facility in Lansing, Michigan.

Associated protests in the affected areas and other auto companies' locations are likely as long as the strike continues. Additional plants may join the strike later in October.

Transport disruptions are possible near protest areas. Business and supply chain disruptions are likely while the strike continues.
