Czech Republic: Unionized workers to conduct multi-sector strike Nov. 27
Unionized workers plan multi-sector strike across Czech Republic Nov. 27. Transport disruptions planned; heightened security likely.
Unionized workers affiliated with the Czech-Moravian Confederation of Trade Unions (CMKOS) plan to go on strike on Nov. 27. The purpose of the labor action is to denounce several issues, including a planned retirement age increase, lack of public sector salary increases, high energy prices, and high inflation. Participating workers come from several sectors, including transport, health, and education, among others. Traffic in Southern Bohemia (Jihocesky Kraj) may be interrupted from 00:01-12:00. Organizers state that about half of CMKOS's 270,000 members will participate.
Additionally, organizers have planned an associated Protest in Prague. Participants will gather at Rudolfinum at 12:00 before marching to Malostranske Namesti, where they will rally from 13:00. The exact protest march route remains unclear.
Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near any protest that materializes in Prague, Southern Bohemia, and elsewhere throughout the country. Medical service disruptions cannot be ruled out. Though unlikely, low-level confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officers or frustrated motorists cannot be ruled out.
Allow additional time if traveling, particularly in central Prague and Southern Bohemia. Strictly avoid all demonstrations as a standard practice. Reconfirm medical appointments. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
