Unionized teaching personnel plan to strike and protest nationwide on Nov. 28. Teachers' union GEW will lead the strikes, demanding increased salaries for teachers. The main gatherings will occur in Berlin, Hamburg, Karlsruhe, and Leipzig; related protests are possible in other urban centers. GEW organized free trains to reach the main rallies; it is likely that several thousand people will participate.

GEW will gather and march in the following cities on Nov. 28:

  • Berlin: From Schossplatz to Brandeburger Tor, 10:00-12:00.

  • Hamburg: From Dag-Hammarskjold-Platz to Curiohaus, 11:00-13:20.

  • Karlsruhe: From Festplatz to Kronenplatz, 13:00-14:30.

  • Leipzig: From Simsonplatz to Johannisplatz, 10:30-12:30.

Protesters will likely remain at the destinations of the rallies through the afternoon of Nov. 28. Authorities will likely deploy law enforcement to monitor the gatherings. Localized road travel disruptions are possible in the affected areas through Nov. 28. Violence is not anticipated.
