India: Farmer groups call for nationwide rallies Nov. 26-28

Farmer groups call for rallies across India Nov. 26-28. Increased security, disruptions likely; clashes possible, mainly in northern states.

Warning

Farmers groups under the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SMK) collective plan to hold protests across India Nov. 26-28. The actions are to denounce the central government's delays in fulfilling promises on minimum support prices and other demands. Organizers have called for gatherings at Raj Bhavans (governor's official residences) in state capitals nationwide, Eco Garden in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh State, and Sector 5, Panchkula, Haryana State. The highest participation is likely in northern India, including in Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh states. Similar events in previous years have attracted up to ten thousand participants. Rallies are unlikely in Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory, as well as northeastern and most southern states.

Timing details are unclear; protests typically occur from late morning through the afternoon. Activists may hold street marches or lead tractor convoys toward Raj Bhavan buildings from major intersections or public squares. Security deployment and localized transport disruptions are likely near large gatherings. Skirmishes between protesters and police are possible, especially if security forces attempt to disperse unruly demonstrators.

Avoid rallies as a security precaution. If violence breaks out, leave the area immediately and take shelter in a secure, nongovernmental building. Do not navigate roadblocks, as protesters may react violently. Allow additional travel time near protests. Monitor trusted local media for protest information, as organizers may not announce details in advance. Heed all security and traffic advisories.
