India: Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit Jharkhand State Nov. 14-15

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Jharkhand State Nov. 14-15 to inaugurate several development projects. Modi will reportedly arrive at Birsa Munda Airport (IXR) in Ranchi at 20:00 Nov. 14 before heading toward the Raj Bhavan government building. On Nov. 15, the leader is scheduled to visit the Birsa Munda Memorial Park in Ranchi as well as the Birsa Munda birthplace in Ulihatu, Khunti District.

Thousands of people will likely gather where Modi visits. Protests are possible at sites hosting the country's leader; tribal activists have previously threatened to demonstrate to advocate for increased rights and recognition for the minority Sarna religious community.

Increased security is likely in parts of Jharkhand, especially around stops on Modi's itinerary. Officials have reportedly imposed public gathering restrictions near the Ranchi Municipal Corporation area 18:00 Nov. 14-23:00 Nov. 15 in anticipation of unrelated protest activity; similar measures are possible near sites where the prime minister visits. Authorities will probably set up checkpoints and block roads to facilitate Modi's movement, leading to localized traffic disruptions. Authorities could also temporarily close the airspace around New Delhi as the prime minister arrives and departs the city via IXR, potentially causing flight delays.
