Italy: Local public transport unions postpone nationwide 24-hour local public transport strike slated for Nov. 27 /update 1

Local public transport unions in Italy postpone nationwide strike slated for Nov. 27. Some unions call for four-hour work stoppages.

Informational

Local public transport unions have suspended a nationwide strike originally set to take place on Nov. 27. The strike was organized to demand better working and salary conditions. Unions postponed the strike to Dec. 15 after the Transport Minister signed a decree reducing the strike from 24 hours to four. At least one local union, Rome's Cobas Lavoro Privato, will observe a four-hour work stoppage from 17:30-21:30.

Accordingly, some public transport disruptions are likely in Rome. Striking workers in the city could gather near major transport hubs to demonstrate during the strike. Authorities could deploy law enforcement officers to monitor any gatherings that may occur. Violence is unlikely.

Confirm transit schedules in Rome on Nov. 27. Seek alternative means of transport if necessary and allow additional time to reach destinations. Avoid all protests as a standard security precaution, and heed the advice of local authorities.
