Italy: Unionized rail workers extend nationwide strike through Dec. 1 /update 1

Unionized rail workers denouncing fatal rail accident continue strike across Italy until 21:00 Dec. 1. Rail transport disruptions ongoing.

Multiple unions representing rail transport workers are extending a nationwide until 21:00 Dec. 1. The industrial action is in response to a fatal collision between a train and a vehicle on Nov. 28. Rail workers affiliated with the CAT, Cub Trasporti, SGB, and USB Lavoro Privato unions will conduct a strike from 21:00 Nov. 30 to 21:00 Dec. 1. This comes after labor unions including FILT CGIL, FIT CISL, Uiltrasporti, UGL Ferrovieri, Orsa Trasporti, and FAST Confsal conducted a strike from 09:01-16:59 Nov. 30.

Rail disruptions will likely continue nationwide through the night of Dec. 1 into the morning of Dec. 2. Striking workers may rally near major railway stations nationwide; authorities could deploy increased security to monitor possible demonstrations. Violence is not anticipated.

Reconfirm all train travel arrangements through at least the morning of Dec. 2. Consider public transport alternatives. Avoid any demonstrations as a standard precaution.
