Italy: Unionized rail workers striking nationwide Nov. 30

Multiple unions representing rail transport workers are striking nationwide Nov. 30. The industrial action is in response to a fatal collision between a train and a vehicle, Nov. 28. Labor unions including FILT CGIL, FIT CISL, Uiltrasporti, UGL Ferrovieri, Orsa trasporti, and FAST Confsal are demanding improved security at level crossings. The action is due to end at 16:59; however, disruptions may continue in the subsequent hours.

Rail disruptions will likely continue nationwide through Nov. 30. Gatherings of striking workers are possible near major railway stations across the country; authorities could deploy increased security to monitor possible demonstrations. Violence is not anticipated.
