Moldova: Farmers' groups to demonstrate in central Chisinau Nov. 30 /update 2

Farmers' groups to protests in central Chisinau, Moldova, Nov. 30. Increased security, localized disruptions likely.

Informational

The Farmers' Force Association plans to protest in Chisinau on Nov. 30 to demand a moratorium on fines connected to farming-related debt. Demonstrators will drive two columns of tractors into the city before staging them at Great National Assembly Square at 11:00. Organizers did not indicate which routes the tractors will take. This is the third demonstration in recent weeks following Farmers' Force Association protests in Chisinau on Nov. 23-24. It is unclear how many demonstrators will participate in the protest. However, previous similar demonstrations have drawn at least 1,000 participants.

Authorities will almost certainly deploy an increased security presence to monitor the protests. The demonstrations and associated security measures, including road closures and movement restrictions, will likely prompt localized transport disruptions. Isolated clashes between police and protesters cannot be ruled out, particularly if activists attempt to breach any security cordons.

As a standard precaution, avoid the vicinity while the demonstration is taking place. Allow additional time to reach nearby destinations in central Chisinau. Heed the instructions of local authorities.
