The Queenstown Lakes District Council is maintaining a boil water notice for parts of Queenstown, Otago Region, as of Nov. 10. The notice has been in place since Sept. 18 following an outbreak of illness caused by the parasite cryptosporidium, which has infected dozens of people. While the notice has been lifted in certain locations, it remains in effect in Queenstown Town Centre, Queenstown Hill, Fernhill, Sunshine Bay, as well as Frankton Road and the surrounding areas. Authorities advise businesses and residents in impacted locations to boil water for at least one minute before consumption or use. Officials did not specify a duration for the advisory.
Poor water quality could impact businesses and organizations that rely on public water.
Boil water for one minute and allow it to cool prior to consumption. Follow these instructions for all water uses, including drinking, cooking, personal hygiene, and preparing food. Consider stocking up on bottled water supplies.
