Nigeria: Labor groups plan to stage indefinite strike across country from Nov. 14 /update 1
Labor groups plan to stage indefinite strike across Nigeria beginning 00:01 Nov. 14. Related protests likely; various disruptions possible.
Activists affiliated with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) plan to stage an indefinite nationwide strike starting at 00:01 Nov. 14. The purpose of the labor action is to denounce the alleged beating of NLC President Joe Ajaero and others by security forces on Nov. 1, among other issues.
Unless averted, the strike may cause disruptions to transport, government services, business operations, healthcare services, and other sectors; airport operations may also be impacted. Related protests are likely, particularly in urban centers near airports, government buildings, and NLC and TUC offices. Clashes between protesters and security forces cannot be ruled out, particularly if demonstrators are disruptive and security forces attempt to forcibly disperse them.
Confirm all appointments and travel arrangements, including flights, until the action concludes. Avoid all demonstrations as a routine security precaution and to mitigate the impact of any associated disruptions. Leave the area at the first sign of a confrontation. Heed instructions from security services.
