Nigeria: United Nigeria Airlines flight disruptions ongoing nationwide as of Nov. 27 after authorities suspend use of all leased foreign aircraft
United Nigeria Airlines flight disruptions occurring across Nigeria as of Nov. 27 due to civil aviation authority investigation.
As of Nov. 27, delays and cancellations are occurring on United Nigeria Airlines (UN) flights after Nigeria's Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) launched an investigation into the carrier and suspended its ability to use leased foreign aircraft (i.e. wet-leased aircraft). The NCAA initiated the inquiry after a United Nigeria flight from Lagos Murtala Muhammed International Airport (LOS) to Abuja Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (ABV) was diverted to Asaba International Airport (ABB) on Nov. 26. The airline initially cited poor weather at ABV as the cause of the diversion; however authorities are disputing the claim.
Flight disruptions on United Nigeria will likely persist until the investigation is resolved with the NCAA. Lingering delays and possible trickle-down impacts to other carriers' flights are possible as passengers rebook on other airlines.
