North Macedonia: Authorities deploying increased security in Skopje for OSCE Summit Nov. 28-Dec. 1

North Macedonian authorities will tighten security and impose several temporary road closures in Skopje Nov. 28-Dec. 1 as the nation hosts the 2023 Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Summit. Heads of state and other dignitaries from OSCE member nations will attend the event. Additional law enforcement officers will be deployed to maintain security. The summit will primarily take place at Boris Trajkovski Sports Center (13, September 8th Boulevard).

Temporary road closures will be imposed along specific routes to facilitate the passage of motorcades carrying dignitaries. Authorities will close Ilinden Boulevard between St. Kliment of Ohrid (Bulevar Svetec Kliment Ohridski) and Ljubljanska Street and September 8th Boulevard between Skupi Street and Partizanski Odredi Boulevard from 09:00-12:00 Nov. 28 for a dress rehearsal of security procedures. These roads may subsequently experience closures throughout the event as delegations arrive and depart.

Some security-related flight disruptions are possible at Skopje International Airport (SKP) as visiting delegations are arriving and departing.

Allow extra time for ground travel in Skopje Nov. 28-Dec. 1. Strictly heed all instructions from authorities. Remain courteous and cooperative if approached and questioned by law enforcement personnel; carry proper identification and travel documents on your person at all times. Reconfirm flight schedules if booked to fly via SKP Nov. 28-Dec. 1; allow extra time to clear airport security.
