At least five people are dead due to an explosion in the Ponda Bazar area of Dera Ismail Khan District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province, the afternoon of Nov. 3. Local media indicates the blast was accompanied by gunfire, and has injured over 20 other people. A motorcycle bomb reportedly went off near a police van. No group has as yet claimed responsibility for the incident. Officials are likely to provide updates over the coming hours.
Authorities will likely maintain a heightened security posture and traffic restrictions in the surrounding area through at least the evening of Nov. 3. Localized business disruptions are probable.
Dera Ismail Khan is approximately 180 km (111 miles) north-northwest of Multan.
