Serbia: Farmers agree to end blockades but remain likely to continue protests in Vojvodina through late November /update 1

Protesting farmers end blockades in Vojvodina, Serbia, through late November. Transport disruptions, tight security remain possible.

Informational

Farmer activists have agreed to end blockades in Vojvodina; however, protests will likely continue across the region through late November. Since Nov. 12, participants conducted scattered road blockages across Vojvodina, largely in rural areas. The actions aim to demand increased government support for farmers, including subsidies for farmland and the removal of an excise tax on diesel fuel. Organizers claim the protests will continue until the government agrees to their demands.

Heightened security is likely near any demonstrations that take shape. Low-level confrontation between demonstrators and law enforcement officers cannot be ruled out.

Avoid demonstration areas as a standard precaution. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers. Immediately depart the area at the first sign that any security disturbance may occur.
