Serbia: Unionized teachers to strike nationwide, protest in Belgrade Oct. 2
Unionized teachers plan to strike across Serbia and march near the National Assembly in Belgrade on Oct. 2.
Unionized teachers plan to strike nationwide and conduct a protest march in Belgrade on Oct. 2. The purpose of the labor action is to denounce alleged pressure exerted on teachers and union organizers in the wake of a previous strike on Sept. 16. Participants will stage a central protest in Belgrade, where they will gather at the National Assembly at 12:00 before marching to the Government of Serbia building on Nemanjina.
Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near the march route in Belgrade. Picket protests are possible at educational institutions nationwide.
As a standard precaution, avoid all demonstrations. Plan accordingly for increased absenteeism on the day of the strike among employees or the parents or guardians of school-aged children; consider allowing a liberal telecommuting policy, if possible.
