Spain: Unionized airport handling workers plan to strike at 46 airports nationwide, Dec. 5 and 10

Unionized airport handling workers plan to strike at 46 airports across Spain, Dec. 5 and 10; travel disruptions likely.

Informational

Workers represented by the UGT (General Workers' Union) plan industrial action nationwide, Dec. 5 and 10. Union members employed by the airport management company Aena are demanding improved working conditions. The strike will likely impact the 46 airports across Spain operated by Aena: a list of airports is here. The action will impact passenger services including baggage handling, and ground operations including aircraft movement and cleaning. The strike will not affect Madrid's main airport, Adolfo Suarez Madrid–Barajas Airport (MAD).

The action will likely cause disruptions to airport operations including passenger processing and flights. Some disruptions may persist in the intervening period between the two strike days.

Confirm flights if booked to travel to or from Spain, Dec. 5-10. Do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed. Allow extra time for checking in at affected airports.
