Uruguay: Unionized fuel transporters end strike Nov. 14; fuel supply disruptions likely to decrease /update 1

Unionized fuel transporters agree to end strike Nov. 14, and will resume supply of fuel. Disruptions likely to decrease.

Warning

Unionized fuel transporters, affiliated with the Association of Fuel Transporters (Asociacion de Transportistas de Combustible, ATC), agreed on Nov. 14, to end their strike and will resume supplying fuel to fuel stations nationwide. The decision comes after reaching an agreement with government leaders for ATC to continue working with the state-owned National Administration of Fuels, Alcohols, and Portland (Administracion Nacional de Combustibles, Alcoholes y Portland, ANCAP) until at least 2026.

The ATC launched the strike Nov. 14, and fuel shortages were reported nationwide. Government and union leaders said it is likely some fuel stations will continue to have shortages for the coming hours, but hope that by late Nov. 15 the situation will be fully resolved.

Lingering fuel shortages and other business disruptions are possible through at least Nov. 15.

Confirm transport reservations if operating in Uruguay through Nov. 15. If operating a private vehicle, consider stockpiling fuel when able and conserve existing supplies.
