India: Activists to protest in Bengaluru, Karnataka State, Dec. 27
Protest planned from Sadahalli Gate to Cubbon Park in Bengaluru, Karnataka State, India, Dec. 27. Tight security, disruptions likely.
Activists affiliated with the Narayana Gowda faction of the Karnataka Protection Forum (Karnataka Rakshana Vedike, KRV) plan to protest in Bengaluru (Bangalore) Dec. 27 to demand shop owners follow government orders to use nameplates with 60 percent Kannada language on storefronts. Participants will march from the Sadahalli Gate near Bangalore's Kempegowda International Airport (BLR) to Cubbon Park. It is unclear how many people will participate in the demonstration or when the event will start.
Authorities will likely deploy increased security along the rally route as a precaution. Large groups of demonstrators will probably cause localized transport and business disruptions. Clashes between activists and security forces are possible.
Avoid the protest as a precaution and to minimize travel delays. Allow additional time for journeys in the affected area. Heed all official directives. Leave the area at the first sign of unrest.
