Initial reports indicate a weaponized drone targeted the vicinity of Erbil International Airport (EBL) the afternoon of Dec. 25. Unconfirmed reports indicate the drone struck a coalition military base located next to EBL, resulting in injuries to security personnel. The status of flights at EBL is unclear.
Increased security is likely in the vicinity of EBL through at least late Dec. 25 as authorities investigate and respond to the incident. Disruptions to airport operations at EBL cannot be ruled out. Additional attacks remain possible over the short term.
