Italy: Air travel personnel to strike at Milan Malpensa, Linate, and Brindisi airports Dec. 17
Airport personnel to strike at Milan Malpensa, Linate, and Brindisi airports in Italy from 13:00-17:00 Dec. 17.
Airport personnel affiliated with several unions plan to hold strikes at Milan Malpensa (MXP) and Linate (LIN) airports in Milan as well as Brindisi Airport (BDS) in Brindisi on Dec. 17. Ground handling personnel at MXP and LIN and BDS's air traffic control (ATC) personnel will hold a work stoppage from 13:00-17:00. The purpose of the strike by MXP and LIN personnel is not immediately apparent; however, ATC at BDS are denouncing the planned downsizing of the Brindisi Air Control Center. Striking groups have guaranteed minimum services per Italian regulations; however, ITA Airways (AZ) and Air Malta (KM) have announced some cancellations at the affected airports as of Dec. 15.
Air travel disruptions, including delays and additional cancellations, are almost certain at the affected airports. Flight disruptions may spread to other airports. Striking workers may conduct picket protests; should any occur, heightened security and localized transport disruptions are possible.
Reconfirm all air travel at MXP, LIN, and BDS through at least the evening of Dec. 17. Allow additional time for air travel through the impacted airports. Do not check out of accommodations before checking the status of your flight. Strictly heed all instructions from authorities.
