Authorities may implement increased security measures in parts of Plateau State over the short term after suspected bandits killed at least 113 people and wounded more than 300 others in a series of assaults on villages in the state Dec. 23-25. The attacks were reportedly coordinated and targeted at least 20 communities, including in Barkin-Ladi, Bokkos, and Mangu local government areas. Local officials said that the violence continued into early Dec. 25.
Similar attacks cannot be ruled out in Plateau State over the coming days.
