Peru: Additional protests planned in Lima Dec. 15 /update 1
Activists plan protests in Lima, Peru, Dec. 15. Disruptions likely. Further protests possible.
Activists plan to stage additional anti-government protests in central Lima Dec. 15; a similar protest was held on Dec. 14. The action is to demand, among other things, the resignation of several government officials. Activists affiliated with the Platform for Democracy (Plataforma para la Democracia) plan to gather in front of the Congress building from 15:00 Dec. 15 before heading to the Palace of Justice at 18:00. Another demonstration is planned at the Plaza San Martin from 17:00; activists may also march along main roads in the Cercado de Lima area. The gatherings are likely to be well-attended. Additional protests may materialize in Lima and other cities over the coming days.
Heightened security and associated business and transport disruptions are likely near the affected area. Clashes between protesters and police are possible.
Avoid all protests as a precaution. If violence occurs, immediately leave the area and seek shelter in a secure, nongovernmental building. Do not attempt to navigate around roadblocks; wait for the police to dismantle them or take alternative routes. Reconfirm all transport reservations. Heed instructions from authorities.
